Facebook Message to a Friend in Greenhouse

Sitting in Greenhouse with a hangover? You have no idea what kind of memories that brings back. I had some great fucking times in that house. For the past two weeks I've had no internet here. I could check my email at the library, but every time I logged onto facebook, the browser would crash. So that sucked. Ya know this comic? http://xkcd.com/466/
Yeah it was pretty much like that. The plus side of it is now I have two weeks of webcomics to read all at once. Fuck yeah.

The other thing I have given up for the past two weeks is alcohol. Which has sucked. But I really want to reduce my tolerance, because its been getting expensive to drink. Hopefully, with another two weeks of sobriety, I can get back off the wagon in style.

So on wednesday, I learned how to drive a combine harvester. That was pretty excellent. It looked just like this one. --> http://www.deere.com/en_US/newsroom/media/images/2007/releases/farmersandranchers/highres/70series_combine.jpg

So how is green house this year? Have you been to any of Kastango's parties? I miss those too.

Hope your Saturday night is going well! Drink for the both of us will ya?

Letter to a friend in PA

So I got your letter the other day. I was quite excited, don't mind tellin' ya. But I think you are probably back home now. Or close to it. So I'm gonna jump back into the 21st Century with both feet. Hooray for email indeed! Lots has happened since I last wrote ya. I have bagged several more peaks in NH's 4000 footer list, I have an apartment in Rock Island, Illinois, and I start work on September the 2nd. Wahoo. You sound like you've had a great time at camp this summer, which I am very happy to hear about. I think you have that nurturing thing going on, which is very cool. So who ya been talkin to? I've been trying to keep up coorispondence with a number of people, you being one of them. I guess the other people you would know would be Eric H, and a facebook message here and there with Ginger.

...

So what are you up to now that you're back from camp? Getting all packed again for school? I got a pile of stuff sitting in my living room for the movers to take. They take like 8 days to get there, so I could be living in my appt with absolutely no stuff for a while. Yay for Thermarest? Thursday I am going back up to the Whites to do a Presidential Traverse. At night. With my sister (and her mohawk) and our friend Sarah. Its like 26 miles or so. Anyway, as long as the weather holds out, it should be a lot of fun. OK, talk to ya soon I hope!

Text Message to Baltimore

Just got back from sailing. Got out there, put up the spinnaker [type of sail], and then the wind died. This may or may not be a metaphor for my life.

Email to my sister

Yes but I have MOAT Hoffman Weiss, some Dogfish Head Pesche, some Rogue American Ale, and some Sam Smith Nutbrown Ale. All burning a hole in my refrigerator so to speak.

From a Facebook message to a friend in PA

So I've been sailing in Maine for the past few days. Anyways, on Thursday, I went below and took a nap. I had this dream that we got in an argument. I think it was about baseball. Anyways, it ended when you pushed me off the boat/hot air balloon.

In an email from a friend in Lancaster

I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying all of your mountain adventures. I wish I had more time to do that kind of stuff. Take advantage of it while you can! Soon you'll be living in the middle of nowhere. :-P

From an email to friend in Baltimore

So I am now a bonafide redneck fo shizzle. In the space of today, I have learned how to ride a horse, shoot a pistol, and do a cake walk, courtesy of the Baptist Church Freedom (Isn't Free) Festival. Tomorrow I am learning to drive a tractor. How is your internship going so far? If its hotter in Baltimore than it is in South Georgia, I'll eat my cowboy hat. Actually, no. I just checked the weather and I believe you.

From a post on Amie's facebook wall

Hey Amie!
Well I'm sorta chilling out until late August. Hiking, biking, etc. Then I'm taking a job with John Deere in Moline, Illinois. Bummer about Italy vs. Spain huh? That sucked. How are you doing?

From an email to a friend in Bethlehem

Yeah, I'm slowly acclimating to life here. I went to see the Boston Pops on Friday night. Some of my parents friends were there, and asking me if I had graduated and what my plans were. I didn't feel like telling them like, "Well I got offers but I didn't like them so I am an unemployed bum, since John Deere didn't like me that much." So I told one of them I was moving to western Tennessee to become a country musician. I told another one that I was practicing for the Olympic horse-shoe throwing Team tryouts. I'm not sure such a thing exists though. Whatever. Anyway, I have an interview with **** ***** on Wednesday. I'm praying (like honestly, in a church and stuff) that it goes well. The job would be in Allentown, so I could keep living in Bethlehem, which would be totally sweet. That way I could pretend to still be in college.

From an email to a friend in Colorado

Hey. I've been meaning to email you since a couple days after you left, but today is the first day I've really been able to. My life for the past week has been a Pollock painting of activity, alcohol, and the awkwardness of meeting your friend's parents. Knowing that its the last time you're gonna hang out with a certain group of people has a way of making that time just dreary and awful. But Graduation was yesterday. So we've all been churned out into the world, ready-or-not, here we come. And now, after all that build up, nothing. Nothing to do except for apply to jobs, and use email and facebook to try to scratch and claw my way into the life I used to hold as a college student. Its fucked. I know I sound mopey. Its not that bad. Its just a big transition.
